Seismic rod stiffener (also known as hanger rod stiffener or seismic bracing stiffener) is a specialized metal fitting for seismic-prone areas. It reinforces threaded hanger rods against buckling or compression failure during earthquakes. Installed by snapping the stiffener to secure a section of 1-5/8″ strut channel directly to the rod—often tightening a bolt to sandwich the rod against the channel—this forms a rigid composite unit.
It boosts the hanger rod’s moment of inertia, converting a slender support into a strong, stable brace for suspended MEP systems like pipes, ducts, and conduits.
